Our Purpose
History and Mission
The Peninsula Elder Abuse Forensic Center is a regional collaboration serving the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, as well as the counties of York, James City, Gloucester, and Isle of Wight.
The mission of the PEAFC is to create a safe community in which older and incapacitated adults are empowered and free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Established on November 1, 2017, the PEAFC operates as an enhanced multidisciplinary team focused on achieving positive outcomes for older adult clients. Participating organizations work together to take concrete action steps in complex cases of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation involving individuals age 60 and older who live on the Virginia Peninsula.
Our Approach
The PEAFC provides a coordinated response to complex cases by bringing together professionals from multiple disciplines. Team members include representatives from:

This collaborative approach allows agencies to share expertise, coordinate responses, and take informed action. Working together strengthens safety, promotes dignity, and supports accountability for older and incapacitated adults across the Virginia Peninsula.

What Sets the PEAFC Apart
Expanded Expertise
The PEAFC expands traditional multidisciplinary teams by including a forensic accountant, civil attorney, and psychologist to support complex elder abuse and financial exploitation cases.
First in the Commonwealth
The PEAFC was the first elder abuse forensic center established in Virginia and has served as a model for similar multidisciplinary teams across the state.
Statewide Recognition
The PEAFC has received formal recognition from the Office of the Attorney General and the Virginia General Assembly for its innovative approach.
Federal Grant Support
The PEAFC has received Department of Justice funding, including Office for Victims of Crime support in 2021 and Abuse in Later Life funding in 2024.
